The Abuse of Prescription Drugs / Documentary Video

The abuse of prescription drugs is quickly becoming an epidemic. They’re easy to get and simple to distribute. Gone are the days when people need to go to a seedy street corner to get high. Now, they just need to go to a medicine cabinet or visit the doctor. While many communities are just beginning to figure out how to handle this legal drug problem, anti-drug groups in Tennessee have had a head start. For years, Tennessee held the unwanted distinction as the nations top state for prescription drug abuse. That is changing, thanks to hard work and cooperation. The people from Tennessee will share their experiences during this hour-long MCTFT broadcast. There will be no expert panel discussion, just advice from the people in the field. Learn how citizens in Tennessee discovered the problem and took control. Hear from coalition leaders, law enforcement, doctors, pharmacists, insurance executives, and others. See what they did so you can bring it into your own communities. Learning Objectives: See how anti-drug groups in Tennessee discovered the prescription drug problem Find out how cooperation is making a difference Learn what law enforcement officers are seeing and how they are adapting to the new drug problems Hear how health care providers are trying to protect themselves and their patients From the public domain, courtesy of the Multijurisdictional Counterdrug Task Force Training (MCTFT)

Pretty soon those people who actually need pain killers aren’t gonna be able to get them because of the drug abuse. Almost everyone I know is hooked on them, and so many I know have died from this addiction! It is bs!! Its also funny how those that are addicted come up with the wildest excuses in order to make themselves feel better about needing the pills. I went to the doc for a minor pain and they wanted to prescribe me hydros? wtf is wrong w/ that picture? I said, no thanks I’ll deal!

My Prayers are with you. I don’t think in your case this is relevant. If someone has cancer, definitely, you are in a position to use. But…we’re talking about the epidemic of people taking prescription drugs just for a “High”.

fuck you…do you even know what the word unbearable pain means? have you ever been prescribed so much pain medicine for your level of pain that you almost stop breathing? when you feel that kind of pain and know what its like to have to use painkillers constantly just to move, then you have a right to comment. i don’t think many of you commenting here even have any idea of the pain the body can survive through. pain pills are to ease that. you don’t choose to get cancer

The benefits don’t outweigh the risks to some people, but I understand what you’re saying too. It’s a shame that there are some people out there who truly need the medicine for diseases and pain that’s legitament — but then, there are those who simply abuse the drug and ruin it for those who are in dyer need of the medications.

Pffft, shouldn’t have got leukemia than

  12. laetrille says:

Your comment shows your ignorance, you are probrably one of the lucky people who take Imitrex or something like that and it actually works. Me on the other hand cannot take those, I get migranes too and have pain from leukemia these medications are the only thing that make my life barable.

  13. laetrille says:

I dont understand what these people are so butt hurt about, so some poeople like to get high so what does it affect you in any way?? The number of people who abuse is shadowed by the number of people who actually need them, around 200 million. 50 million being pain related compared to 12 million abusers. So the benefits outweigh the risks.
